QUALIFY IT
Does it qualify?
Notice first. Under 7 days: owed, unless the re-route left within an hour of the original and landed under two hours late. 7–13 days: the windows widen to two hours early and four late. 14 days or more: nothing for the cancellation itself, though rebooking and refund rights stand.
Then the regime. easyJet UK flights from Gatwick, Luton, Bristol, Manchester are UK261. easyJet Europe (the Austrian AOC — the OE- registered aircraft on the intra-EU network) is EC261. Same amounts in different currencies; the paperwork goes to the same form.
A cancellation announced at the gate is under 7 days by definition. That is the strongest position your client can be in.
THE MONEY
What is it worth?
£220
Under 1,500 km
£350
1,500–3,500 km
£520
Over 3,500 km
Per passenger, measured on the journey’s great-circle distance.
Under 1,500 km £220 / €250 · 1,500–3,500 km £350 / €400. There is no £520 easyJet claim — the fleet is A320-family and nothing it flies clears 3,500 km. Gatwick–Alicante, Gatwick–Faro and the Greek islands are £350s; the domestics and near-Continent are £220s.
THE PUSHBACK
What easyJet will say
easyJet cancellations cluster in two causes: summer ATC restrictions (genuinely extraordinary, usually) and crew or rotation problems (not extraordinary, ever). The refusal letter tends to say “operational reasons” and stop. Push for the specific cause and the date it applied — Wallentin-Hermann puts the burden on the airline to prove it.
Strikes are the live one. Strikes by easyJet’s own crew are not extraordinary (Krüsemann, C-195/17); French ATC strikes are. Ask which.
THE EDGE
What’s specific to easyJet
easyJet has no claims email. The EU261 compensation form on its site is the only door, and it issues a reference number — record it, because follow-up without it goes nowhere.
easyJet is a CEDR member: after a refusal or 8 weeks of silence, arbitration is free for your client and binding on the airline. Name CEDR in the escalation line.
The fleet caps every easyJet claim at £350 / €400 — useful to know before you promise a client a number.
Six years to file in England and Wales for UK261 claims; easyJet Europe departures follow the departure country’s limit (Austria 3 years, Spain 5, Italy 2).

THE PLAY
How do you file it?
File through easyJet’s EU261 compensation form, one claim per booking, every passenger listed.
Attach the booking confirmation and the cancellation notification — easyJet’s app push or SMS is fine as a screenshot.
Decline the voucher if offered; cash is the default under Article 7(3) and vouchers need your client’s written agreement.
Diary eight weeks. Refusal or silence: open a CEDR case.

AGENTS ASK
Questions agents ask
easyJet moved them to the next morning — still claimable?
+
Yes, unless notice was 7–13 days and the new flight fit the four-hour window. Next-day almost never does.
They accepted the refund on the app. Does that end it?
+
No. The refund settles the ticket; Article 7 compensation is a separate right.
Which easyJet do I claim against?
+
The operating carrier on the e-ticket — easyJet UK or easyJet Europe. Same form either way; the regime follows the departure airport.
The cancellation was for weather at Gatwick — dead claim?
+
For the cancellation, usually. Care rights (meals, hotel, transfers) survive every cause — claim those with receipts.
Can I file for a client as their agent?
+
Yes, with written authorization. easyJet accepts agency-submitted claims through the same form.
